President Muhammadu Buhari recently ordered the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, to extend its crude oil exploration to six basins in the country.
The president said exploration was imperative to the country’s economy, and that oil and gas remain critical to the development of the country.
While flagging off the commencement of drilling activities at Kolmani-II Oil Well, Gongola Basin, Upper Benue Trough recently, President Buhari directed NNPC to intensify its campaign in the Chad Basin, to discover new hydrogen to extend the economy of the people within the region and the nation at large.
According to Premium Times, the Group Managing Director of NNPC, Maikanti Baru, had said the exercise started some years
back,but was suspended as a result of the abduction of some expertsworking on the project.
President Buhari lauded NNPC’s exploration into the Kalmani River II Well, saying that it will spur-off socioeconomic activities. He lauded the corporation and security agents who work to protect the place.
He also paid tribute to some university lecturers abducted while carrying out research work on the project.
In addition, Mr. Baru commended and charged the stakeholders in charge of the project to remain patient and committed, as oil exploration is capital intensive and has a long-term duration
