On a recent facility tour of Nipco PLC’s Liquefied Petroleum Gas facility LPG), the Managing Director of the Nigerian LNG Limited, Mr Tony Attah, was highly impressed by the human capital available at the company in addition to the huge investment in facilities undertaken by the company. NIPCO Plc completed a 4,800 MT LPG facility in 2008 and is currently constructing a 5,000MT LPG sphere which will be the largest in Africa and will increase access to LPG in the country.
Mr. Attah noted that the NIPCO LPG plant is a game changer in Nigeria and was going to increase the country’s ability to receive LPG and supply same to the local market.
The Managing Director of NIPCO PLC, Mr. Venkataraman Venkatapathy noted that the NIPCO facility is strategically located in Apapa and operates in the vicinity of 3-4 jetties, allowing it to receive large amount of Gas and white products with a good turn around time.
Both companies have had a long term partnership and can see the scope for an even stronger relationship in the future.
Nigeria LNG is the largest supplier of LPG to the local market with a planned supply of 300,000MT of LPG into the local market in 2017. LPG is a cleaner and cheaper substitute for kerosene and the Federal Government has over the years advocated for an increase in investment in LPG facilities in order to make LPG more accessible to the majority of Nigerians at the right price.
