The recently completed gas cylinder manufacturing plant commissioned by Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has resumed operation immediately.
The ultra-modern plant built by Techno Oil is located at Kajola community, along Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos. As the largest in LPG manufacturing plant in West Africa, the plant will produce gas cylinders of all sizes to serve both the local and international market possessing the capacity to produce five million tons per year.
At the inauguration, the vice president, represented by his media aide, Laolu Akande revealed that the “commissioning is a landmark moment for Nigeria’s mid-downstream gas sub-sector and a reminder that we must regard our abundant domestic gas resource as an important component of economic growth and national prosperity”.
He stated: “The federal government will continue to actively support every effort to promote the use of LPG in Nigeria, as well as create and maintain an effective and a catalytic regulatory environment.” Continuing, he said: “The goal is to achieve five million metric tonnes (5,000,000 MT) of domestic, commercial and industrial LPG utilization in 10 years. Specifically, for household cooking, we are targeting a 40 percent adoption rate (i.e. 13.8m households) in five years, and 73 percent adoption in 10 years (33.3m households). We believe that the sub-sector can create up to two million new direct and indirect jobs in Nigeria.”
